Dear Members,
Major Pennant Season Report
The season has concluded for the Penrith Major Pennant Golf Team this year.
The guys went into the season hopeful and confident of competing well again in Division 1. The season started with a home game against Castle Hill in hot weather and with all but one match coming down 18 we unfortunately found ourselves on the wrong side the final results losing at home 5-2 that day.
With a close loss away at The Lakes (4-3) and a Tied game at home against sectional winners Cromer along with 2 more losses in our season, we found ourselves in last position in our group with a relegation semifinal eminent.
Our last game of the home and away season, young Ryder Jerzyna notched a win on debut and in front of large crowds following all the groups that day we recorded a 5-2 victory.
This wasn’t enough to get off the bottom of the ladder, so the team had to play a relegation match on Sunday 16th March against Lynwood GC at Bankstown GC and unfortunately the result didn’t go our way with Lynwood proving too good on the day.
What this means is that Penrith’s stay in Div1 major pennants has come to an end after 5 seasons, and we’ll look to next season in getting the rub of the green in Div2 and getting back to where the team is capable of competing at the highest level.
A big thankyou goes out to our recent and ongoing sponsors Craig Murray, Peter Willis, Brad Collins and Jason Nolan. This enables the team and supporters to come together and enjoy the day more as a club instead of as a few individuals playing golf. If you see these guys up the club, they won’t shy away if you offer them a beer.
This support from our club at the home games and on the bus for the away games was noticed from other clubs in a positive manner and they often commented on how great it was and wishing they had similar from their clubs.
Who doesn’t love a wagon wheel on the 11th green?
The shirts provided by Clint Borsato were a hit and we can wear these in support of other inter club competitions throughout the year. Reach out to Clint if you’d like one.
Thank you to the managers Gal, Mosi, Muncey and the Captain of the team Dale Hughes for the extra work behind the scenes getting the buses, practice rounds and Pies sorted each week.
Onwards and Upwards to next season.
