Our Men’s Major Pennant Team has taken a giant step towards remaining in Division 1 with a fantastic away victory against Cronulla on Sunday.
After rain and course closures ended the Major Pennant Season early back in February, our Men were unlucky to finish the season in fourth position, forcing them into a do-or-die relegation battle against Cronulla.
Michael Organ fought hard all day before eventually going down on the 17th Hole to the Cronulla Club Champion, before Jonah Metuangaro got the team back on level terms, coming from behind to record a strong 3 & 2 victory.
Josh Scott secured a vital half point in the number 5 match, before Penrith took control of the two-legged tie with some clutch performances in the middle order.
Dale Hughes exercised some 18th hole bunker demons with a fantastic up and down from the sand on the final hole to win his match 1up, whilst Jeff Gadd made a monster 20-foot birdie putt on the same hole moments later to pick up another half point.
When Josh Gadd went down in the number 1 match the scores were tied at 3-3, but Blade Gadd ensured Penrith returned home with a valuable away victory, winning 2 & 1 in the most impressive performance of the day.
The return leg will be played at Penrith Golf Club on Sunday 10th July with Penrith needing only a half to remain in Division 1 for a third consecutive season. We encourage all club members to come out and support the team in the match.
